The EZsleep Wedge is a simple, yet effective solution to help with night-time symptoms, which are associated with several health conditions. Such issues include acid reflux or heartburn, hiatal hernia, indigestion and stomach pain, nasal congestion, snorning, difficult breathing, postnasal drips, night-time cough, postoverative swelling, and high eye pressure. EZsleep Wedge helps you get better sleep, which leads to a better health. And a better health certainly means a better quality of life!

EZsleep Wedge Pillow

Good sleep  =  Better life

There are many night-time symptoms that are aggravated by lying in a flat position. Various diseases are infact the underlying causes of these symptoms. These conditions include acid reflux or heartburn, hiatal hernia, indigestion and stomach pain, nasal congestion, snorning, difficult breathing, postnasal drips, night-time cough, postoverative swelling, and high eye pressure. Lying with your upperbody elevated can manage or stop those symptoms. And EZsleep Bed Wedge can help you comfortably and healthily sleep in this preferred position.

EZsleep Wedge - A Solution to Many Problems

Night-time symptoms, be it, acid reflux, esophageal pain, indigestion, nasal congestion, snoring, obstructive sleep apnea, or a nagging cough certainly disturb your sleep, affect your health, and will eventually erode your life quality. Sleeping on an EZsleep Bed Wedge is a simple, yet effective solution to help you manage those difficulties.

Elevated sleeping on a bed wedge pillow is an effective and easy home remedy against acid reflux from GERD, hirtal hernia, or food allergies. It also is a good position to alleviate stomach pain and feeling of indigestion.

EZsleep Wedge helps manage acid reflux (heartburn) caused by GERD or hiatal hernia. Also helps relieve discomfort from esophageal pain and stomach pain as well as feeling of indigestion

Lying flat using one or even several regular pillows do NOT help with acid reflux or food indigestion. The upper body is still in a horizontal position and acid or food content can travel back up to esophagus. With the EZsleep Wedge Pillow , the entire upper body is being elevated; and with help of gravity, acid and food content stays where it belongs. Say Goodbye to reflux!

Sleeping on the EZsleep bed wedge promotes better air-flow and prevents weak tongue muscles from blocking the airway - minimizing risks of snoring and sleep apnea.

EZsleep Wedge helps promote better breathing during sleeping, hence alleviate nasal congestion and minimize risks of snoring as well as mild sleep apnea

Sinus and nasal congestion, allergic reactions, and weak muscles in throat cause obstructed airflow, which in turn leads to snoring. Habitual snoring hurts sleep quality of both the snorer and the sleeping partner. It also poses several health risks from fatigue to enlarged heart. By elevating the person's upper body, EZsleep Wedge Pillow helps relieve congestion and prevent weak tongue muscles from collapsing to block the airway, hence promotes better air-flow and prevents snoring.

EZsleep Wedge Pillow facilitates mucus drainage, which helps relief night-time cough due to post-nasal drips.

EZsleep Wedge helps prevent post-nasal drips pooling at the back of the throat, therefore effectively stop night-time coughing.

Post-nasal drips becomes more troublesome at night during sleep when you lie in reclined position when mucus pools at the back of your  throat forcing you to wake up throughout the night to cough and clear your throat. Sleeping in an inclined position with head and upper body propped higher is always recommended by health experts as way to manage night-time coughs. The position promotes better breathing, mucus drainage, as well as prevents back-flow of stomach acid.

EZsleep Wedge Pillow helps reduce eye pressure peak during sleep - minimizing damage to optic nerves and Glaucoma risks.

EZsleep Wedge Prevents High Introocularpressure (high eye pressure), hence reducing risks of damaging optic nerves

Ocular hypertension (OHT) is a condition of the eye when the eye pressure (Intraocular pressure or IOP) is higher than normal. After being exposed to high pressure over time, the optic nerves can be irreversibly damaged. IOP is affected by body positions; increasing when one lies down, and decreasing when one sits upright. Many specialists advise their patients with ocular hypertension or glaucoma to sleep with body elevated to save their optic nerves from being repeatedly exposed to high pressure during the night.

Have you or your loved one just had a surgery on your head, face or chest area, or undergone any of the following procedures: eyelid surgery, breast augmentation, tummy tuck, rhinoplasty, abdominoplasty, breast reduction, craniotomy, or facial lift? Are you now looking for a way to heal your surgical wound and prevent swelling and potential infection? The EZsleep bed wedge can help you! Sleeping with the operated area of your body on a bed wedge helps improve fluid circulation, thus reducing risks of swelling and pain, and eventually speeding up the recovery.

EZsleep Wedge helps reduce post-OP swelling and pain, hence reducing risks of infection and speeding up wound recovery

Post operative care always include elevating the operated area higher than the heart to help drain the fluid away from the site and promote better blood circulation to assist the healing process - preventing excessive swelling and further complications. You may need time to adjust and feel comfortable on this new position, so it is a good idea to start sleeping on a wedge pillow a few months before your operation.

EZsleep Bed Wedge is wide and long (85x80cm), so it is very comfortable and healthy to use. It is great for back as well as  side sleeping. With multiple 10cm-high wedge layers, each of which has a different foam firmness, the EZsleep Bed Wedge can therefore offer total flexibility and versatility. You can choose a preferred foam support (soft, medium and firm), or adjust the total height at anytime between 30, 20 and 10 cm.  Foam layers can be put on and under the mattress. A layer can also go directly under the sheet. The wedge can be used for the upperbody as well as for legs. It can be put upright to support sitting in bed reading, watching T.V or using a laptop. Or just lie with your stomach and chest on the wedge while reading. You can just relax on our EZsleep Bed Wedge!

EZsleep Bed Wedge Pillow: Effective, Adjustable, Flexible, and Versatile

The EZsleep bed wedge is adjustable - both the height and the type of foam. Due to its multi-layered design, it offers various usability and flexibility for integrating the wedge layers in your bed settings. The EZsleep Wedge Pillow is also versatile - it is suitable for both back and side sleeping, great for the upper body as well as for legs, and for comfortable sitting in bed.

Are you having any of these night-time difficulties that makes sleeping in a flat position uncomfortable or even unsuitable for you: acid reflux or heartburn, hiatal hernia, indigestion and stomach pain, nasal congestion, snorning, difficult breathing and congested lungs, postnasal drips, night-time cough, post-operative swelling, and high eye pressure? There are several conditions for which the use of a wedge pillow may be an easy and inexpensive solution to achieve partial or complete relief by optimizing body position while sleeping.

Nocturnal gastro-esophageal reflux causes heartburn and sleep disturbances impairing the quality of life. The inclination of the upper body, which can be achieved by using the wedge pillow, promotes a gravitational benefit to reduce acid reflux.

Obstructive sleep apnea is another condition where use of the wedge pillow may help to relax the musculature of the upper airways, with consequent improvement of the airflow in the airways. Similarly, people suffering neck pain and congestive heart failure may find some relief by elevating of their upper body.

The wedge pillow provides a simple and effective option for conditions where upper body elevation can be beneficial to alleviate some medical conditions.

... Wedge pillows keep the upper body in an elevation posture and leads to changes in the dimensions of the pharyngeal airway. Such mechanism helps maintain upper airway patency, making it less collapsible and more easily opened during sleep. Therefore lying with upper body resting on a wedge pillow can be useful in reducing the risks of obstructive sleep apnea.

When lying supine during sleep, the muscles of the pharyngeal airway or the upper airway become relaxed and gravity can lead to its narrowing, hence higher risks of apnea during sleep. Obstructive sleep apnea syndrome is a significant and relatively common sleep disorder that can lead to increased irritability, impaired attention and vigilance, and emotional instability.

Wedge pillows keep the upper body in an elevation posture and leads to changes in the dimensions of the pharyngeal airway. Wedge pillows offer comfort and multiple therapeutic benefits. The system is recommended to those suffering from respiratory problems as well as back and neck pain. It is also good for patients in orthopedic rehabilitation.

A gradual inclination provides comfort, relaxation, and support for those with back and neck problems or injury. The pillows allow the users to lie in the zero gravity position which minimizes excessive load on the spine, improves circulation, and relieves muscle tension. Postoperatively, it is recommended to elevate the head of the bed to a 30-45 degrees position to promote optimal blood circulation to all the vital healing areas and help reduce the swelling. Wedge pillows also support trunk stabilization in side lying, while their gentle slope enables the users to come out of bed without straining the spine. In addition, elevation of head and trunk is ideal to help relieve the discomfort during breathing problem.

A Stanford University School of Medicine study considered lifestyle modifications such as the use of wedge pillows to be first-line therapy for gastroesophageal reflux disease [Arch Intern Med. 2006 May 8; 166(9): 965-71]. A University of Wisconsin randomized trial reported sleeping on a wedge pillow, compared to sleeping flat, decreased both the time the esophagus was in contact with excess acid, and the longest episode of reflux [Digestive Diseases and Sciences; 1988 May,33:5,518-522].

My clinical experience as well as clinical data from other centres supports the concept that lifestyle modifications are vital components of disease therapy and prophylaxis. Of note, emerging evidence highlights the indispensable role of sleep posture in disease pathogenesis [1].

Evidence from clinical studies point to the importance of sleep posture modification using wedges pillows, in relieving symptoms of gastro-esophageal reflux disease[2]. Furthermore, the wedge pillow has been found useful in the treatment of late pregnancy-related backache and insomnia [3]. In addition, positional therapy using the wedge pillow is relevant in the treatment of mild-to-moderate obstructive sleep apnoea, as well as in the reduction of nocturnal raised intra-ocular pressure in patients with glaucoma [4].

Taken together, the wedge pillow is increasingly recognised as an important tool in the treatment and prevention of a variety of clinical conditions.

Wedge pillows are designed to provide alternative positioning methods for individuals who are unable to tolerate sleeping flat on their back. The wedge shape is most often used to elevate the head of the user to assist with difficulties that may arise from sleeping without inclination, such as sleep apnea.

For those battling sleep apnea, the wedge pillow may help provide clearance from airway obstruction, thus reducing the severity and frequency of apneic episodes. This can be used in conjunction with other treatments to improve the quality of sleep for these individuals. Although not guaranteed to provide relief, the wedge pillow has the potential to provide an inexpensive, comfortable alternative for some diagnosed with sleep apnea who may not tolerate other types of treatment.

... I recommend wedge pillows to patients with back pain, fibromyalgia, sleep disturbances, acid reflux disease, GERD and COPD. Sleeping on a wedge pillow is effective in reducing the symptoms of these chronic diseases, hence an improvement in sleep quality.

Wedge pillows that are designed to elevate the upper body help promote better breathing, and manage acid reflux symptoms as well as sinus congestion and snoring. This natural position helps open obstructed airways reducing instances of snoring and sleep apnea, as well as helps with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) treatments. In my practice, I also recommend wedge pillows to patients with chronic back pain due to their anatomical support and exceptional comfort. In some cases, when placed under lower legs, the wedge pillow offers relief from sore muscles due to exercise or overexertion.

...Pressure relief is important not only when walking, but when lying in bed as well. From the medical point of view, the use of a wedge-shaped pillow under the legs seems beneficial as it could provide such load relief while the patient [with diabetic ulcers] is resting in bed.

As a medical doctor with over 10 years of experience in Diabetes and Endocrinology, I have seen many diabetic patients end up with complications such as neuropathic foot ulcers. Careful surgical debridement, antibiotic therapy, and pressure relief are the treatment measures of choice in the acute phase of these lesions. Diabetic ulcers often require a long time to heal - weeks, even months. During that time, finding a method to decrease the pressure on the affected area is crucial.

Pressure relief is important not only when walking, but when lying in bed as well. From the medical point of view, the use of a wedge-shaped pillow under the legs seems beneficial as it could provide such load relief while the patient is resting in bed.

People with conditions like reflux generally sleep better when their upper bodies are elevated. A wedge pillow is a simple and effective way to do this. In my experience, the gentle gradient of a wedge pillow is much kinder on the neck and upper back than the bulge provided by a traditional pillow, which can put strain on the neck area. When people try to prop themselves up on multiple pillows, it tends to make things worse because the body ends up being bent. A wedge, on the other hand, gives the necessary height without constricting the neck and allows the individual to keep themselves comfortably raised. A wedge pillow is also useful for anyone suffering from upper respiratory problems, including sleep apnea, allergies, sinusitis and snoring.

In the busy world of our age it is not rare that people are suffering from various health conditions and seeking an easy and comfortable solution for their problems.

Bed wedge pillow is ideal and would highly be recommended for those who underwent different kind of spinal operations especially in the lumbar (lower back) or in the cervical (neck) regions to support spine and relieve postoperative pain by keeping the torso in a more upright position. It can also be an effective rest to the upper body when being placed vertically behind the back. By having it under the legs following lower limb surgery (vascular or post trauma) helps to reduce oedema and supports circulation.

In generally bed wedge pillows are great help in postoperative pain relief and recovery.

...A wedge pillow enables the user to lie in an anatomically correct position as his/her spine is kept in its neutral, natural position, hence minimizing chances of disturbed sleep cycle caused by sleep apnea or pain....

As a psychiatrist, I work daily with patients who suffer from depression, anxiety or PTSD. One thing all of these illnesses have in common is that they disturb the patients’ sleep. At the same time, fighting those illnesses takes a lot of energy out of the patients, so good sleep is doubly important. A wedge pillow enables the user to lie in an anatomically correct position as his/her spine is kept in its neutral, natural position, hence minimizing chances of disturbed sleep cycle caused by sleep apnea or pain. This is also especially useful for patients who use sleeping aids and, as a result, usually sleep more deeply and do not move. The lack of movement during the deeper sleep state can cause pain, which may be prevented by lying on a wedge pillow to keep the spine in its natural position.

Acid Reflux

Acid Reflux

What is it?

Acid Reflux refers to the situation where the food content or the acid in the stomach flows back up into esophagus (food pipe) and creates painful, burning sensation behind the breastbone or in the esophagus and the throat. The symptoms are commonly known as "regurgitation" and "heartburn", and are 'typical' signs of Acid reflux. However, many people may not experience them, and are instead suffering 'atypical' symptoms of Acid reflux such as persistent cough, sore throat, excessive clearing of the throat, tooth sensitivity, and asthma like symptoms. Some people may experience a combination of both typical and atypical symptoms.

Regular re-flux will more likely result in further symptoms such as, nausea, esophageal pain, chest pain, athma, trouble swallowing, hoarseness and chronic sore throat, sour taste in the mouth, bad breath, and tooth erosion. Chronic acid reflux, know as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) can eventually cause bleeding and ulcers in esophagus, permanently damage esophageal lining, and it also increases risks of esophageal cancer.

Relief & Prevention

Many health care providers and institutes suggest sleeping in an elevated position as a way to help manage acid reflux

Nose Congestion

Nose Congestion

What is it?

Nasal congestion or congestion inside the nose (stuffy nose) happens because there is some swelling of the tissues and blood vessels inside. The person has difficulty breathing, though may or may not have a nasal discharge (runny nose).  Nasal congestion can be a short-term symptom due to some causes such as dry air, tobacco smoke, common cold, flu, sinus infection, for instance.  However people with some underlying health conditions such as allergies (both environmental and food), chronic sinusitis (long-term inflammation of the sinuses), nasal polyps (noncancerous and usually painless lumps growing inside the nose or sinuses), medications, or thyroid problems may experience nasal congestion more frequently than others.

Relief & Prevention

By elevating the person's upper body, the position keep the upper airway open and helps relieve congestion, hence promotes easier breathing.

Snoring

Snoring

What is it?

Snoring refers to when the person makes grunting breathing sound while sleeping because of airflow obstruction. Some common causes of obstructed airflow are nasal congestion (congested nose), sinus infection, and relaxed throat muscles, which is in turn a usual cause of "sleep apnea".

Relief & Prevention

By elevating the person's upper body, the position helps keep the upper airway open and prevent weak tongue muscles from collapsing to block the airway, hence promotes better air-flow and prevents snoring.

Raise the head of your bed – This simple tip can also help diminish the collapsing of your airways. Simply raise the head of your bed about four inches, by placing blocks or wedges under your mattress.

Sleep Apnea

Sleep Apnea

What is it?

Sleep apnea literally means pauses in breathing during sleep.  It can happen up to a hundred times per hour and last up to 40 seconds each time. When it occurs, the body may be triggered to wake up several times as an attempt to grasp some breath. This is a serious sleeping disorder that causes low blood oxygen, daytime sleepiness, mood and memory problems, heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, etc. The more common form of sleep apnea (of the two types) is 'obstructive sleep apnea' (OSA), which refers to the weak throat muscles that get relaxed during sleep and collapse to block the airway. Many people have OSA at sometime in their life and may have it for a short period of time, while others may be experiencing the problem chronically and more regularly.   OSA almost always leads to snoring, while not all snorers have OSA.

Relief & Prevention

By elevating the person's upper body, the position helps keep the upper airway open and prevent weak tongue muscles from collapsing to block the airway, hence promotes better air-flow and prevents snoring as well as mild sleep apnea.

Night-time Cough

Night-time Cough

What is it?

Stubborn nighttime cough may be caused by some external environmental factors such as dusty bedding or dry air, which can be easily managed by, for example, regular changing of the bedding or using a humidifier. However, night-time cough that seems to be triggered by flat sleeping position may need a little more careful observation as it can be a result from one of various underlying health-related causes. Some common causes include acid reflux, night-time asthma, and post-nasal drips.

Acid Reflux:
Some acid and food content or simply the acid gas that flows back up from your stomach when you lies flat can irritate your esophagus lining and throat and trigger coughs. At the early stage of Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) when the symptom is not obvious and one does not usually realize that he/she experiences episodes of mild reflux throughout the night, the cough seems to start without warning and with no reasons leaving the sufferer clueless of what he/she can do. Only until GERD advances and gets diagnosed, and the acid reflux symptoms are managed, that the person realizes that his/her night-time cough starts to improve.

Night-time asthma: The condition has various symptoms such as cough, wheezing, chest tightness and shortness of breath, which prevent the person from sleeping. Asthma sufferers usually experience worse symptoms at night, but the exact reason is not yet known, though it can be combination of things such as cooler air, nighttime hormone secretion, and acid reflux triggered by flat sleeping. Though the exact cause-and-effect relationship between asthma and GERD is also unknown, it is clear that both conditions are linked and often treating GERD results in relief of asthma symptoms. There are also cases of 'asthma-like' symptoms that are in fact caused by atypical acid reflux disease. Since reclining sleeping position can worsen acid reflux, it is also possible that such position triggers night-time asthma or asthma-like reactions.

Post-nasal drips: Everyday glands in our nose, sinus, and throat produce one to two liters of mucus to help keep the respiratory tract healthy. We normally swallow down this mucus together with our saliva throughout the day without realizing.  But there are times when mucus becomes problematic and noticeable, then it is usually referred to as 'post-nasal drips'. Post-nasal drips may be caused by one or several factors including colds, flu, sinusitis, and allergic reactions to irritants, foods or medications. The result is usually excessive production of mucus inducing cough and throat clearing, which in turn further irritates the already sensitive throat and airways. Post-nasal drips becomes more troublesome at night during sleep when you swallow less often, and importantly while lying in reclined position when mucus pools at the back of your throat forcing you to wake up throughout the night to cough and clear your throat.

The root cause of your nighttime cough needs to be diagnosed and treated. However immediate actions to help prevent the cough in order to ensure your quality sleep each day is also necessary.

Relief & Prevention

Sleeping in an inclined position with head and upper body propped higher is always recommended by health experts as way to manage night-time coughs possibly triggered by flat lying position. The positions promotes better breathing, mucus drainage, as well as prevents backflow of stomach acid.

Ocular Hypertension

Ocular Hypertension

What is it?

Ocular hypertension (OHT) is not a disease. It is a condition of the eye when the eye pressure (Intraocular pressure or IOP) is higher than normal. The normal eye pressure range is between 10-21 mm Hg., though the upper limit may vary in different groups of population.

Certain eye diseases, eye injuries, as well as medications can cause OHT. However, it is important to understand that the eye pressure will certainly increase when there is retention of the fluid (called aqueous humor) inside the front of the eye. The eye constantly produces and drains aqueous humor, but when the drainage system does not function properly, the fluid builds up inside creating higher pressure to the optic nerves. OHT does not show any signs or symptoms. However, after being exposed to high pressure over time, the optic nerves can be irreversibly damaged. This can lead to vision loss, Glaucoma, and blindness.

General speaking, as we age (older than 40), we are more susceptible to ocular hypertension. However, African-Americans, people with family history of ocular hypertension or glaucoma or those who are strongly near-sighted are considered to have higher risks.

Although people with ocular hypertension do not necessarily have to go on to develop glaucoma, and people with normal eye pressure can as well develop a kind of glaucoma, ocular hypertension is considered an important factor in determining risks of glaucoma. Therefore, it is highly recommended that you have your eyes checked regularly to detect hypertension or any other eye related problems at the early stage so the appropriate measures can be taken before any damage occurs.

Relief & Prevention

Eye specialists have long known that intraocular pressure is affected by body positions; increasing when one lies down, and decreasing when one sits upright. Many would advise their patients with ocular hypertension to sleep on their back with body elevated in order to save their optic nerves from being repeatedly exposed to high pressure associated with flat lying.

Certainly IOP increases when we lie down.., Sleeping in a head-up position can also reduce the nocturnal IOP peak.

--- Review of Opthalmology ---

In normal subjects, IOP was lower when measured in the supine position with the head kept up by the bed head elevation compared with that measured when lying flat.

--- The National Center for Biotech. Info.---

In one study, initial IOP increases after changing to supine position were neutralized by adopting a semi-reclined position that raised the head.

Glaucoma

Glaucoma

What is it?

Glaucoma is an eye disease that, when left untreated, would progress to vision loss and blindness. The condition is a result of irreversible optic nerve damage, which is usually caused by high pressure in the eye (ocular hypertension). The increased eye pressure happens due to fluid retention in the front part of the eye, though the causes of the build-up may vary in different types of glaucoma.

There are several types of glaucoma. The common ones are open-angle and angle-closure glaucoma, though you may also hear about normal-tension, and secondary glaucoma.

Open-angle glaucoma, or primary open-angle glaucoma, is the most common form found in at least 90% of all glaucoma cases.[1] In this type of glaucoma, the physical structure of drainage system in the eye looks normal but, for some reasons, becomes less efficient and more clogged, which results in ocular hypertension. The chronic high pressure slowly damages the optic nerves, which is usually not noticeable until an advanced stage where vision loss becomes obvious.

Angle-closure glaucoma, also known as closed-angle glaucoma, is more common in Asia. It's an acute condition resulting from blockage of draining canals due to physical structure of the eye, in which the iris (part of eye tissue with a hole in the middle) is too close to the cornea (the clear dome serving as the front part of the eye). The sudden fluid build-up causes rapid increase in eye pressure and presents acute symptoms that require immediate care in order to prevent blindness. The symptoms may include sudden vision blur, severe eye pain, headaches, nausea, and haloes (rainbow-colored circles around bright lights).

Normal-tension glaucoma is the one in which the damage to optic nerves happens despite of the normal eye pressure. Doctors still do not well understand this condition. However, just like in open-angle glaucoma, doctors emphasize on keeping low IOP as the way to prevent further nerve damage.  Some risk factors include Asian ancestry, family history of the condition, and  cardiovascular disease.

Secondary glaucomas are any glaucomas that have been developed as results of other eye conditions or diseases such as eye injury, eye surgery, diabetes, or tumor.

Except of closed-angle glaucoma, most glaucoma cases are usually undetected until very late stage of the disease where vision loss is already quite advanced. Therefore, it is highly recommended that you go for a regular eye checkup even you do not experience any symptoms. By doing so, you can detect any signs of high eye pressure before any damage to the optic nerves happens and you stand a greater chance of saving your vision.

Relief & Prevention

Many studies have suggested sleeping on the back with head of bed elevated (to support the body) helps reduce nocturnal IOP, which is an important factor to be controlled in order to slow the disease progression in glaucoma patients.

Posture-related management of patients with glaucoma, which is intended to reduce the risk or degree of progression may include the use of specially designed pillows, bed-head elevation and recommendations to avoid postures which induce higher intraocular pressure.

--- Clinical and Experimental Optometry ---

The 20-degree head-up position correlates with lower nocturnal IOP as compared with the supine position in glaucoma and nonglaucoma patients.

Sitting upright or in a semi-sitting position reduces ... intraocular pressure in glaucoma patients...

The 30-degree head-up sleeping position lowers IOP compared with the flat position.

Swelling & Pain (Post-OP)

Swelling & Pain (Post-OP)

What is it?

A surgery generally involves making a cut on the body's tissues resulting in a wound known by the body as an injury that needs to be healed. After making sure the bleeding stops, the body starts sending blood and fluid to the location to supply substances essential to fight off infection and clear off damaged cells. This inflammatory phrase of the healing results in fluid retention at the site leading to swelling and pain that usually last from several days to two weeks, though this depends greatly on type of surgery, wound location, and the patient's own health condition. While swelling and pain are considered a normal part of healing process, unmanaged swelling that becomes excessive is not normal and certainly not desirable.

Excessive swelling is bad. Why?

When more fluid gets trapped in the tissue around the wound area, the swelling becomes bigger. The greater the swelling, the more pressure the nerves receive, and the worse pain you have. Moreover, when the tissue is soaked with liquid, new blood cannot easily circulate to the site to deliver oxygen and nutrients resulting in slow healing. The delay in healing triggers even more inflammatory response, which will create further swelling -a vicious cycle.

When swelling becomes out of control as such, the wound becomes prone to infections, which create complications to recovery. This eventually affects the quality of the final surgery outcome and enhances wound scarring, which is not desirable to any surgeons and patients, especially of cosmetic surgeries.

Therefore, among other factors such as diet, medication, and rest, swelling management is part of post operative care instructions that each surgical patient will have to strictly follow in order to achieve a successful end result.

Relief & Prevention

Post operative care always include elevating the operated area higher than the heart to help drain the fluid away from the site and promote better blood circulation to assist the healing process. Patients with surgeries performed on their head, face, chest , and abdominal areas can sleep with the head and upper body elevated on a wedge pillow, while patients with operated legs or feet can use a wedge pillow under their legs and feet.

How To Sleep Safely After A Face-Lift Surgery: ...The ideal sleeping position for face-lift patients is in on the back, with the head raised above the heart...Head elevation of about 30-45 degrees is important after any facial surgery in order to control and diminish swelling.

EZsleep Bettkeil 10x2 - HARMONA: Equanimo

I know I must visit the doctor about the Hiatushernie problem and finally decide what to do with it. But during this time, sleeping on the wedge pillow really helps me to not feel pain and pressure in my esophagus. I am glad that it works for me and I can now sleep. Sincerely thanks for this wonderful wedge.

Prajem Vám príjemný deň a veľa vďačných klientov.

mehr / more / viac...

After some weeks of trial and error to find a comfortable sleeping position, I now feel that I am getting the best out of the wedge. For me, the key was to find a correct pillow to put below my buttocks to prevent sliding down. If you could provide a special pillow for this purpose together with the wedge, I think you will have another great product. Also, the 85cm wedge is too wide for our 150cm bed. A 75 cm version should be available as well.

mehr / more / viac...

This is the 2nd month I sleep on the wedge. I am using 3 foams and I now sleep with almost no reflux. I still do not feel completely comfortable on this 30cm hight, but it is 100% better than sleeping without it. I think I will use only two layers as soon as I feel much better. Is EZsleep Wedge For Me?

Two steps to help you find out if EZsleep Wedge Pillow seems to be a solution for you. (with a Video clip)

step 1 - how to setup your mattress

Try It Yourself

Try setting up your own inclined bed before buying a wedge pillow
  • Place some cushions, pillows or boxes under your mattress so the head part is raised for about 15-30 cm. (See the image)
  • It doesn’t matter if it's not pretty, but make sure the mattress is firmly supported and feels smooth when you lie on it. Align your waist where the mattress bends to get maximum benefit of the elevation.
  • Use this setting for a few days and see if your symptom is getting better and you can sleep better. If it doesn't seem to help, try increasing the height.  –––– (Tip: Try putting a flat roll of soft blanket beneath your knees to stop your body from slipping down during the night. It’s also a good way to release tension under your knees and lower back.)
  • Continue for at least two weeks to see if you can get used the position and start to feel more comfortable.

If you could do two weeks and feel that your symptom has been less bothering for you at night, it’s time to make the final decision in step 2!
step 2 - it's time to get an EZsleep Wedge

Treat Yourself

Up to this point, it is clear that you benefit from sleeping in an elevated position.

You can continue using the setting from step 1, but let us tell you four reasons why you should get an EZsleep Wedge Pillow!
  • It’s more comfortable and looks nicer.
  • It’s more convenient to use.

Both the EZsleep Wedge and the FlexiSoft Pillow are adjustable – height and firmness.
  • It’s healthier for you and your sleeping partner since it does not create empty space beneath the mattress for dust to collect.
  • It is good for sitting in bed as well!

About Us

EQUANIMO is a business project under ECENTER, s.r.o., Bratislava, Slovakia. We aim to bring to European market simple, yet functional personal products that can help individuals restore balance and well being during their everyday lives.

Our core business concept comes from our notion that the activities we engage in, the postures we hold, the food we eat and drink, and the things we use and interact with tend to create stress on our systems. That has caused our bodies to slowly drift out of their natural balance.

Human body is remarkably resilient and able to heal and get back to its optimal state. Unfortunately, we keep stretching our system on a non-stop basis with our modern life-styles and eating habits. A part or parts of our bodies can eventually start to get overwhelmed and complain in forms of aches and pain, disorders, and diseases. As the ’sole’ owners of the bodies,  individuals cannot deny their responsibilities.  If we want to get better, we need to help our system to.

EQUANIMO, by no means, plans to replace your physicians. We are here to provide options that can help you take charge of your own health, along side any necessary treatment from your doctors. See Our Disclaimer.
