WINNIPEG – The average number of mosquitoes in city traps hit 60 on Thursday, well above the 25 needed to start spraying pesticides in residential areas.
Trap counts must stay above an average of 25 with at least one trap having 100 mosquitos for 48 hours before the city will start fogging.
The city has said it is ready to start fogging as soon as the required time has passed. The insect control branch will provide an update on its activities to the media at 12:30 p.m. Friday.
A trap at Assiniboine Park had 472 mosquitoes in it on Thursday; a trap in southeast Winnipeg and two in northwest Winnipeg also had more than 100 mosquitoes in them.

The city uses malathion in its spraying program.
Residents can apply for a buffer zone around their home, which means the city won’t spray within 90 metres of their residence.
