York University says it has contacted police about anti-Semitic graffiti that was found in one of the school’s washrooms on Thursday.

One Facebook user who posted a photo of the graffiti on their timeline said it was found inside a bathroom in the Health, Nursing and Environmental Studies building on campus.

In a statement sent to a student at the university, York’s president and vice-chancellor Mamdouh Shoukri said school officials were “disturbed” to learn of the incident.

“We condemn any act that maligns an individual or group, or actions aimed at marginalizing members of our community,” the written statement read.

“Together, we have worked, and continue to work, diligently to build a strong, healthy and respectful campus community. Actions such as this attempt to divide us, are inconsistent with who we are as a University community, and as such, cannot be tolerated.”

A spokesperson for the university told CP24 that there have not been any more incidents since the graffiti in the bathroom was spotted.
