When Stephen Harper was first elected he assured Canadians that his Conservative government would walk tall in the world.

“We are determined to demonstrate Canada’s leadership on the world stage,” he told Parliament in 2006. “To regain the trust of our allies, and to demonstrate that we will pull our weight.” And he paid special tribute to our military, diplomats and aid workers.
