Why this petition matters

Started by Cathy Nissen

November 11 should be a statutory holiday all across Canada.

Canada lost two soldiers to murder within days of each other - on Canadian soil, simply for being Canadian soldiers. They were targeted because they were in uniform. A uniform they wore proudly. Now more than ever we need to give this day the respect and complete attention it deserves. Our armed forces deserve this day to be honoured and recognized by all of Canada.

In those provinces that don't recognize this day as a statutory day of remembrance - Ontario, Quebec, Nova Scotia and Manitoba - members of the work force are not able to attend Remembrance Day ceremonies to pay proper tribute and celebrate the lives and sacrifice of our military. The work force want to show their support too. Canada needs to be unified on this day.

There is growing support for this idea, and a motion for this has just been tabled in Parliament, so please help show our politicians that Canadians from coast to coast to coast agree: it's time that ALL of Canada be allowed to unite on this day with one purpose.
